Chicks dig the long ball. Rockies homer their way past Phils

The ballpark homer chances in Coors Field have been sliding for a few years now, but the Rocks got a little luck and a healthy does of catching straight homer shots to overcome the Phils....

GAME 1

Phillies - 2

Rockies - 10

This was the only blowout.  Clayton Kershaw went seven and allowed just two hits, both solo homers.  The rockies offense bopped four homers off of Matt Libertore and were up 8-0 after 3.  Willy Adames fell just a double short of hitting for the cycle, and 5 Rockies stolen bases helped the cause.  Rookie note - Yohel Pozo got his first career KPSL hit in the 3rd, and it was a 2-run homer.  Someone throw back that ball!

Starters - Libertore and Kershaw

WP - Kershaw  LP - Libertore   HR - Lindor, A. Ramirez, Gurriel, Kim, Pozo, Adames

GAME 2

Phillies - 3

Rockies - 4

Jacob Degrom pitched 6 2/3 no-hit innings before Matt Olson nabbed a bp single in the 7th.  He left at the end of that frame up 2-0, and the Phillies would get a Lindor homer to start the 8th.  Up 3-0 with a bullpen full of flamethrowers...no problem!  Except...problem.  By 5 batters into the home 8th, Randy Rodriguez had lost the game.  Adames led off with a homer.  Kim...walk.  Gurriel gets a bp homer shot and misses it.  But Vientos get another one right behind him, and does not miss.  It's now 3-3.  Up strolls Fernando Tatis...catches a 3-1 heater and launches it into the night!  Emilio Pagan then comes on and shuts the door in the 9th, allowing just a 2-out single and striking out Lindor to end it.  Degrom beat up a Gatorade cooler in disgust.

Starters - Degrom and Roupp

WP - Thielbar  LP - Rodriguez  SV - Pagan  HR - Lindor, Adames, Vientos, Tatis

GAME 3

Phillies - 6

Rockies - 3

The Rocks did grab a 1-0 lead early, but the Phillies weren't having it.  They scored 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th, and did just enough to go into the 9th up 5-3.  So why steal one more run (literally).  When Corbin Caroll got plunked and had to leave the game, in comes Jorge Mateo.  Mateo steals second and takes third when Pozo throws it into the outfield.  On third, he's hopping around.  Hold him?  Nah...let him try!  And he does...and steals home on a 1-7 shot at a straight steal.  Well, there you have it.  Rocks are retired 1-2-3 in the 9th by Diaz.

Starters - Gore and Martinez

WP - Gore  LP - Martinez  SV - Diaz  HR - Wagaman

GAME 4

Phillies - 4

Rockies - 8

Another bullpen implosion for the guys who wear read.  Phillies got runs off of Robbie Ray and led 4-0 going to the bottom of the 6th.  David Peterson was cruising, but was pulled once he loaded the bases.  Phils decide to bring out the big gun.  Diaz runs in with the bases loaded, no outs.  He'll put out the fire!  He strikes out Spencer Horwitz.  But then Adames hits a 2-run single, and Lee cranks a two-run gap double.  Diaz would strike out Gurriel, but with 2 outs, Tatis got the CLASSIC Coors bp single, and the Rocks were up 5-4.  And we'd use homers in the 7th and 8th to pile on!

Starters - Peterson and Ray

WP - Ray  LP - Peterson  SV - Civale   HR - W, Smith, Gurriel

Rocks emerge 9-7, in a huge part thanks to outhomering the Phils 10-3 in this series.  Phillies fall to 3-5.  Thanks to Sammy for playing on a Friday afternoon.  I believe he is jumping right back in today!  Next up for the Rocks are the Reds Tuesday night!
