Dbacks Continue Attack - Win Home Series Against Phillies

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been on a big roll in the second half. After losing three to the Cardinals to come back from the All-Star Break, they took three from the Padres and Pirates. Next up, the Philadelphia Phillies travel to the desert. Can the Dbacks stay hot or will the Phillies “we are selling” mode be all “smoke and mirrors”.

Phillies would jump out front as an Agustin Ramirez 1-run triple in the 2nd and and RBI double from Kyle Karros and 1-run single by Alexander Canario would put Philadelphia up 3-0 thru four inning. The Dbacks bats would finally emerge in the 5th, as an error and a 2-run Luis Arraez triple would plate three, a two-run home run by Otto Lopez in the 6th and a Brendan Donovan 1-run single in the 7th would put the snakes in the lead 6-3 and that would be our final.

Makenzie Gore and Zac Gallen would both go seven plus innings in this one and leave with a 4-4 tie. Bryce Harper had a 2-run double, JJ Bleday had a 1-run double and Trevor Story had an RBI for the Phillies. Dbacks would find the long ball in Arizona with a 2-run bomb from Francisco Lindor (1-3 chance, rolled a 1) and Starling Marte would hit a solo shot. Jurickson Profar would hit a 1-run double as well. Locked up at four we go to the 10th, Sam would do what only he can do. With the Dbacks David Bednar on the mound and one out, he would walk Harper. Enter Jorge Mateo would would easily steal 2nd base. Trevor Story would slap a single scoring Mateo to make it 5-4 Phillies. Jeff Hoffman would strike out two to record the save and the win for Philadelphia.

With the series tied, both team were hoping to take command of the series. The Phillies would strike first. In the 2nd inning, Paul DeJong would hit a solo shot to give Philly a 1-0 lead. The Dbacks would also produce in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by Issac Collins and a Bendan Donovan RBI single to make it 2-1 Arizona. Dbacks would tack on two more in the 4th on a Jacob Young RBI single and an Alec Bohm RBI double. The Phillies would get solo home runs from Brandon Marsh in the 5th and Gabe Moreno in the 6th to cut the Dbacks lead to 4-3. In the 7th inning, Starling Marte would hit a 2-run bomb, his 2nd of the series to make it 6-3 snakes. The Phillies would pinch run Mateo in the 8th and he would steal two bases, Michael Harris would hit a 2-run single to make it 6-5 Dbacks. David Bednar would shut down the Philly offense in the 9th for the save and the victory. Grant Holmes would go six for the Dbacks and strike out nine for the win.

This game was all Diamondbacks. By the time the Phillies scored in the 3rd, Arizona had six runs and 10 hits. The Dbacks would end up with nine runs on eighteen hits and twenty-four men on base. Ivan Herrera led the offense with a double and triple to go with 3-RBIs. Luis Arraez and Francisco Lindor both had 2-RBI days. JJ Bleday would have a 2-run single for the Phillies but there was not much offense to be had outside of their 4th inning offense. Dbacks win game four and the series.
The Dbacks are now 32-28 and have gone 9-3 in their last 12. Next week they have a home series vs. the Cubs. A series win could put them in a really good spot and they head towards a potential playoff berth.
