The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks have a series in the desert. For the Diamondbacks, it’s a big matchup to stay with the teams on the playoff line as we head to the All-Star Break. The Rockies are looking to make their way back to the top of that list and have been one of the better teams this season. Over the years, these two teams have had their fair share of dramatics, which have included many long extra inning nights and playoff drama. This series should be no different.
Game 1
Dbacks 8
Rockies 5
Arizona has been on a struggle bus with the bats this season and they saw Clayton Kershaw was opening this one for the Rocks. Dbacks history has seen the offense dominate Kershaw in the past, and the team would take advantage. The Rockies would make it a 1-0 game on a Jung Hoo Lee triple, but it would be the Dbacks making it 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning. A trio of RBI’s by Jacob Young, Andrew Vaughn and Miguel Andujar would set that inning off. Willy Adames would have and RBI single in the 4th to help the Rockies climb back to a 3-2 game. Then in the bottom of the 4th, Francisco Lindor would smash a solo shot to make it 4-2 Dbacks. The Rockies would continue to fight and put up two runs in the 6th on RBI’s from Will Smith and Fernando Tatis Jr. The score was now 4-4. Then in the 7th, the Dbacks would get a three-run home run from Vaughn to make it 7-4. They would add an eighth run on a Luis Arraez single to make it 8-4. Rockies would try to make a run in the 9th on a Bret Baty RBI single but could not mount the comeback. Dbacks win the opener 8-5. Andrew Vaughn would have a 4-RBI game on the night.

Game 2

Dbacks 3
The Rocks would jump out first in this one. Leading the third inning with three runs, two of those on a Will Smith single and Matt Olson would slap another one in to make it 3-0 Colorado. Dbacks would cut the lead to 3-1 on an Otto Lopez 1-run double in the 4th. Rocks would get a Fernando Tatis Jr. bomb in the 6th to make it 4-1. Arizona would cut the lead to 4-3 on RBI’s from Isiah Kiner-Faleafa and Lopez, but there would be no magic in the 9th. This one goes to the Rockies.

Game 3

Rockies 4
Dbacks would strike first with a Miguel Andujar solo shot in the first and Ivan Herrera would walk with the bases loaded to score another run to make it 2-0 after two innings. It would not take long for the Rockies to get rolling. A Matt Olson 2-run blast in the fourth inning would tie the game, followed by a Will Smith solo shot in the fifth and a Spencer Horowitz RBI double in the sixth would make it 4-2 Colorado. Dbacks bats would explode in the seventh. Keibert Ruiz would start the scoring with an RBI single, then Brendan Donovan would hit a 2-run double to make it 5-4 Arizona. Bullpen of Dylan Lee and David Bednar would retire the last six Rockies on their way to the victory.

Game 4
Dbacks 4
Rockies 3
(12 Innings)
The final series and it would not be Dbacks vs Rockies without some extra innings excitement. Dbacks would score first in this one on a Francisco Lindor RBI single in the third. Colorado would answer back in the sixth, on a Tyrone Taylor RBI single to make it a 1-1 game. Lindor would get his 2nd RBI in the game in the seventh on a single to make it 2-1 Arizona. David Bednar would come in to close this game out and the Rockies said think again. With two outs in the 9th, Fernando Tatis would single and then steal 2nd base. Then Jung Hoo Lee would hit a single to tie the game at 2-2. Dbacks could not generate anything in the bottom of the 9th, so it’s on to extra innings. Rockies would answer in the top of the 12th inning on a Taylor triple, scoring Willy Adames who had reached base on a throwing error by IKF. The Dbacks would make their run in the bottom of the 12th. With one out, Alex Call would hit a double, followed by a triple from IKF tying the game. Otto Lopez would be intentionally walked, then Andrew Vaughn would hit by a pitch. Vaughn was unable to continue, and pitcher Andrew Abbott came in to pinch run. With the bases loaded, Jacob Young would stroke a single to score the winning run. A Walk Off Win for the Dbacks and take the series three games to one.
WP – Lord LP – Casparius This was a much-needed series win for the Dbacks to put them back to 20-20 with a final home series against the Phillies to get to the All-Star Break. For the Rockies, they now sit at 25-19 and still one of the top teams in the league at the break.
