Goodman Powers Dodgers Sweep Of Dbacks In SBC

The Santora Baseball Classic started in 2023 and features father vs son opening the KPSL season. Once thing to note, the Joshua Santora led Dodgers have won every opening series, going 3-1 each time. In 2026, Los Angeles is the pre-season favorite and have built a pretty good group of talent. On the other side, Jim Santora’s Dbacks are starting to make some strides to try and get back to the form that lead them to championship appearances in 2020 and 2021. Let’s get to the action of the SBC.

Game 1

Dodgers 4

Dbacks 3

(17 Innings)

WP – O’Brien

LP – Bednar

HR – Goodman, Tovar, Herrera

Yamamoto and Andrew Abbott get the opening day start for their respective teams and after five innings, it was a 2-2 tie. Dodgers would strike first on a Hunter Goodman 2-run blast in the 3rd inning. Yamamoto would allow two runs in the 5th, thanks to a series of walks and HBP’s. In the 8th inning, Ezequiel Tovar would slug a solo shot against his old team to make it 3-2. Dodgers felt the game was at hand and brought in Aroldis Chapman to close.

He would face Ivan Herrera to open the 9th and BOOM! It’s a solo bomb for Herrera and ties the game. Jalen Beeks would shut down LA bats in the bottom of the 9th and we head to extra innings. It seemed like the game would never end. The long relievers of Emmet Sheehan and Brad Lord would hold things down for multiple innings. Dodgers would eventually strike in the bottom of the 7th. With David Bednar on the mound, he would walk Shohei Ohtani to start the inning. Austin Riley would come to the plate and hit a ball to 4e41 Issac Collins. He boots it and now there are men on 1st and 2nd. Bednar would get Ryan O’Hearn to pop out and strikeout Jackson Merrill. Tovar steps up and slaps a walk off double to win the opener 4-3 in 17!!!

Game 2

Dodgers 5

Dbacks 2

WP – Wheeler

LP – Suarez

SV – Miller

HR – Higashoka

The Dodgers make a big trade before this series and land Zach Wheeler. Many of the Dodger fans liked the deal but were upset that they sent fan favorite Mitch “The Bitch” Keller to the Giants. There were plenty of signs in the stadium with “Thank You Mitch” showing their appreciation. Wheeler would not disappoint, he would go six innings, striking out 11. His only blemish was a 2-run bomb by Kyle Higashoka. Former Dbacks Amed Rosario and Tovar would each drive-in runs, James Wood and Brice Turang singles would make it a 4-2 lead to Dodger blue in the 4th. Spencer Steer would add an insurance RBI to make it a 5-2 win for the Dodgers.

Game 3

Dodgers 7

Dbacks 3

WP – Priester

LP – Luzardo

HR – Goodman, Wood, Riley

Dodgers would bring the power in this game as Goodman, Wood and Austin Riley would each hit 2-run home runs seal this win. The game was 7-1 and Arizona did manage two runs in the 9th attempting a comeback, but it would not be enough.

Game 4

Dodgers 6

Dbacks 0

WP – Rasmussen

LP – King

HR – Goodman

Drew Rasmussen dominated on the mound in the day game, pitching six innings of shutout ball. Meanwhile, Goodman would hit a 2-run bomb, his third home run of the series to help secure the sweep of the series with a 6-0 win.

Recap: Dodgers have a very deep squad that will bring the bats. While teams focus on Ohtani, everyone can hit up and down this lineup. Look out for Hunter Goodman, he is dangerous. Dbacks forgot their bats and lost a few opportunities to score runs, Trevor Story missed on 3 home run opportunities and the dice danced around all of the Dodgers pitching. Jim rolls were in full effect in the opening series.
