Pre-Draft Report: Phillies

The 2024 Phillies season fell short by two games.  Phillies management went all in at the cost of 2025 draft picks and while a World Series appearance might be a win for some franchises, it isn’t for the Phillies.  So going into the 2025 season armed with no draft picks and several glaring holes some controversial changes were made.  Gone are Mookie Betts and Matt Olson, in come in Brandon Nimmo Michael Harriss and a couple draft picks.  Will that be enough to make the Phillies compete?  “Hell no!!”  says GM Sam Sweet “We took a look at our team and we were not going to win anything with our current players, so why not shake things up.  We hated trading Mookie but I think getting a CF for years to come and a potential pitching stud in Strider is a nice haul and will help us more in the long run.  The Phillies this year will be an also ran and we are looking to build a team that will bring us back to our glory days where we went to 9 World Series out of 11, winning 4.  We want to get back to that dominance.”

“When I say also-ran we are not going to just roll over,” Sweet continued, “we still have a good core with Lindor Harper and Bohm, I think we will give teams fits with our OB and speed.  Our defense is tops in the league and we just added Harris.  Unfortunately, our starters are below average and that will be our downfall.  But you know even though we are rebuilding, if we are close to the playoffs we will make a run, we are after the Evil Empire!!”

Michael Harris will be a welcome addition to the Phillies with his bat and glove.
