Race You To The Bottom: Reds Take Three From Cubs

Reds and Cubs started the 2nd half as bottom dwellers. One still has false hopes of making the playoffs while the other is in full rebuild mode. 

Game 1

Logan Webb vs Eury Perez

Reds 5, Cubs 1

Another useless start to a game from the Reds, but they finally tack on 2 runs through 4 innings, with one of the runs being a solo shot by Laureano. Logan Webb pitched great, going 5IP with 0R and only 2K. DL Hall comes in and gives up an RBI single to make it 2-1 Reds thru 6. The Reds get to the Cubs bullpen in the 8th with a 3-run shot by Stowers off Wrobleski. Cubs go 1-2-3 in the 9th.

Game 2

Michael Wacha vs Seth Lugo

Reds 5, Cubs 4

Brandon Nimmo blasts a 3-run homer, just his 2nd homer of the year, in the 2nd inning to start the scoring. The Cubs tie the game in the 3rd after scoring 1 in the 2nd, as Moniak hits a 2-run shot off Michael Wacha, which ends his day (he goes 2.33 IP). The Cubbies take the lead in the 5th off an RBI double with 2 outs, and DL Hall gets the hook (he shouldn't have faced Alvarez who smacked said double). The Reds get some luck as a BB turns into a run from a SB and a throwing error by Alvarez. With 1 out Marte drives him in with a SF. We headed to extras and the Reds struck immediately with a Geno Suarez RBI single. Bottom 10 the Cubs go 1-2-3 again.

Game 3 

Merrill Kelly vs Jose Quintana

Reds 4, Cubs 1

Another game of no real big inning. The only real note was that Brandon Nimmo homered again, his 2nd of the series after having only 1 in 127 at bats. The Reds left 11 on base this game; story of our season. Merrill Kelly pitched great, going 7.33IP 6H 8K 1ER. The Cubs lone run was in the 1st to tie the game off an RBI single by Nick Gonzales.

Game 4 

Hurston Waldrep vs Spencer Strider

Cubs 11, Reds 0

All positivity and momentum the Reds had was washed away quickly. Waldrep goes .33 IP and gets the early boot as the juggernaut Cubs offense tattoos his card for 3 runs in the 1st. The bullpen decided to be just as shitty as they imploded in the 6th as all 9 Cubs batters came up, the big blow being a Josh Bell grandslam off Trevor Megill. 

The Reds won 3 but we were outscored 16-14 and left 32 men on base. No words and story of our season. We also got caught stealing on a 1-17 twice and another on a 1-19. Cubbies also had some stupid rolls as well, so it wasn't all one sided. It felt like the 20 dice either rolled a 1 or a 20 all night; neither team actually hit their ballpark home runs when called upon.
