To tell you the story of the Rocks game 4 vs the Brewers, we have to go back to game 4 of our last series versus the Reds:
8th inning - Rockies trail 10-2. Both teams have already replaced numerous players. The game is a fate de comple. But then the tide turns. The Rocks get walks, hits, and a couple of big homers. It all wraps around to our 4-hole, one out and two men on. The man at bat? Jarred Kelenic. He's only here because of injuries, and he subbed in to save Garrett Mitchell's at bats. But Jarred came to play! He gets a diamond....we are in Cinncy....he launches it deep into the rightfield stands! Rockies go up 11-10, would win that game 12-10.
Time move on....Rockies vs Brewers. Jarred Kelenic has been sent back to the minors.
GAME 1
Brewers - 3
Rockies - 7
A game that was close until it wasn't. The Rocks go up 3-0 until the 6th inning, when the Brewers score two runs before the Rocks even get an out. But Joel Payamps and Michael Lorenzen clamps things down, and the Rocks would then have a big 7th inning to stretch it out. Matt Olson wakes up and begins a big series with two bombs!
WP - Roupp LP - Rodon HR - Beck, Olson (2)
GAME 2
Brewers - 3
Rockies - 2
Tyler Glasnow pitches 7 shutout innings, but leaves with just a 1-0 lead. The Rocks pen chokes on it. A Jeimer Candelario two-run homer gave the Brewers the lead. A Heliot Ramos RBI single in the 9th gave them the insurance run they needed. Rockies score 1 in the 9th...we needed at least 2.
WP - Little LP - Hudson SV - Vodnik HR - Candelario
GAME 3
Brewers - 3
Rockies - 6
The Brewers would inflict damage on Blake Snell early, using Ramos and Conforto homers to go up 3-0 after 3. But after that they'd get just another 3 men on base, and would not mount another threat. The Rocks came back with 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th, capped by another Matt Olson homerun. Notably, both Fernando Tatis (1 gm) and Lane Thomas (4 gm) got hurt in this one....meaning Jarred the Legend would get the call.
WP - Snell LP - Ashcraft SV - Jimenez HR - Ramos, Conforto, Olson
GAME 4
Brewers - 2
Rockies - 8
Jarred Kelenic gets a callup for Thomas, and is immediately placed in the 8-hole in the lineup. All he'd do is hit two homers in his first two at bats there, meaning he hit 3 homeruns in 3 straight ABs. It was enough to put the Rockies up 5-2 after 4 frames, and Yu Darvish and the Rocks pen would actually pitch 6 perfect innings from innings 4-9. No drama.
WP - Darvish LP - Taillon HR - Ramos, Pederson, Garcia, Kelenic (2)
Rockies are now 38-30, set to face the Nats next Tuesday. Brewers are 33-43...looking to play spoiler and maybe nab 40 wins, which would be a great season for a rebuilding team.
