Stallings Big Series Helps Propel Phillies Over Pirates

A rematch of last year's World Series where Pittsburgh Stadium was a house of horrors for the Phillies offense.  Would the same hold true this year.

GAME1

Gore vs Schellenbach

Gore was masterful over 7 innings allowing only 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 7.  The Phillies offense came thanks to a solo shot by Bryce Harper and a three-run homer by Francisco Lindor.  A Byson Stott Single extended the Phillies lead to 5-2 after 7.  A two-run pinch hit double by Joey Meneses closed the gap to 5-4. Brent Suter shut the door in the ninth for his 8 save of the season.

GAME 2

Nola vs Cabrera

The Phillies drew first blood Corbin Carroll, gets plunked and has to come out, enter Dylan Crews who steals second and then third and trots home on Kyle Higgy’s throwing error.  KeBryan Hayes then takes Everth Cabrera deep for a 2-0 lead and like so many games this season the Phillies begin to put up the picket fence (scoring 1 run in consecutive innings) RBI’s doubles by Franscisco Lindor and Miichael Harriss extend the lead to 4-0.   Not to be outdone by his teammate Aaron Nola went innings allowing 5 hit and zero runs while striking out 7.

Suarez vs Castillo

Before the series Steve said playing in his park is a race to 5 runs.  “Whoever scores 5 first will win” The Phillies in an attempt to start the race both a double steal of home.  Brandon Marsh gets nailed at the plate.  The Pirates end up drawing first blood with solo shots by Ozzie Albies and Alec Bohm.  The score remained 2-0 until the 6th inning and Corbin Carroll goes yard.  This is followed by a Bryce Harper double and a botched flyball by Jazz Chisolm which ties the score.  In the top of the 8th Lindor hits a 1 out double and scores on a error on a ball hit by Ty Cobb…err Jacob Stallings.  A JJ Bleday single puts runners on the corners.  Enter Josh Hader who strikes out Michael Harriss but walks KeBryan Hayes and Bryson Stott, before retiring Brandon Marsh.  But the Phillies could quite get to 5.  Pzzoie Albies leads off with a walk, steals second moves to third on a ball hit to right and scores on a ground out to second.  Exit Orion Kerkering (who is tired, enter Matt Libertore who promptly hits Marcell Ozuna and the very next pitch serves up a gopher ball to Jazz Chisolm.  Socre 5-4 …need I say more
