The number 14 is very lucky in the KPSL, especially if you are a starting pitcher. History was made this past week as another pitcher has etched his name into the record books.
Michael Wacha’s record of 14-0 tie the KPSL single season record for wins in a season. He ties Brandon Webb (2008) 14-2 and Zach Greinke (2016) 14-1. Interesting tidbit here…. All three pitchers with the record have ties to Jim Santora run teams.
Brandon Webb pitched in Jim’s inaugural season when the team was in Pittsburgh.
Zach Greinke started the season with the Pirates in 2016 was traded to the Phillies midseason and the draft picks and players received help Jim improve by 15 games in the win column the following season.
Michael Wacha ties the record against Jim, who the Dbacks picked up in a trade last season, only to move him to the Reds at the trade deadline.
Will we have to wait another 8+ years for the next time this milestone is hit?
