I'm getting used to my team.
I am getting used to the injuries, the good pen, the lack of thump, and the fact that this, right now, is a pretty good team. The surprise of the night was that we crept into first place. Good to hear. It won't last. It rarely does.
Tonight was Billy and his club. As always they pitch well, have some thump and have a certain flaw which will annoy Billy at the worst possible time.
It was a well played, well thought out series. The games were close and tense. And it was a gentleman's split.
GAME 1
CARDINALS 6
Giants 4
WP: Herz
LP: Heany
S: Iglacias
The goings on: Herz' first pitch as a Cardinal went deep the other way to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. The lefty bore down and gave up just one more run the rest of his night. St. Loo responded with a run in the third and two more in the fourth. Cronenworth added a pinch homer to make it 4-1. After the Giants added a tally, the cardinals added two more runs in the seventh behind a william contreras double and a poorly timed pass ball (yes, the annoying flaw is defense. Billy's team did not field well and it hurt them throughout the series). The Cards took a 6-2 lead into the ninth. Ryne (how is he pitching this well) Nelson finally gave up some runs allowing two to start the ninth. Iglacias came in to ice the win.
GAME 2
GIANTS 5
Cardinals 1
WP: Wheeler
LP: Imanaga
The goings on: Wheeler was dominant. That card is tough. If you are going to have righties in there, and if they are going to constantly roll the pitcher's card, you're in for a long night. 9 strikeouts in 7.1. Didn't allow a run until an error given up by their defensive black hole at third base came around to score in the 8th. Cardinals amassed a paltry 4 hits in the affiar. The Giants got dongs from Wilson and Burger and coasted.
GAME 3
GIANTS 6
Cardinals 5 (10)
WP: Hoffman
LP: Rogers
The goings on: The cardinals bats continued their slumber as the Giants took a 5-0 lead. Acuna's three-run triple did most of the damage. In the sixth, the Cardinals lashed five singles (some on x-rolls) and then TJ Friedl slammied to tie the game. The bats went back to bed and the Cards had just one more hit in the rest of the tussle. In the 10th, Gonzalez hit a game ending shot to give the Giants glory.
GAME 4
CARDINALS 2
Giants 0
W: Irvin
L: Webb
S: Irlacias
The goings on. This was strange. Lots of hitting, little scoring. Three times in the first five innings, the Giants had runners in scoring position with less than two outs. They didn't score. They did it again in the eighth by the by, and didn't score. The Cardinals didn't do much better leaving nine runners on base. But they scored enough to get the w. Freeman led off the game by going circus. They tacked on another one in the fifth when freeman singled home Mike Siani. Irvin went seven. Robertson and Iglacias slammed the door.
