Dbacks Happy To Return Home: Sweep Brewers In Process

The Arizona Diamondbacks were coming off a miserable 1-7 road trip and have been 8-16 this season as the visitor. Their last two series are home, where they have been a .500 team.  The first matchup was against the Milwaukee Brewers and their first battle with new GM/Manager Jordan Schmidt.  Both teams were currently muddling at the bottom of the division.  Could either team rise back to the pack?  Let’s find out:

Game 1

Dbacks 3

Brewers 0

Spencer Turnbull has been magic for the Dbacks this season.  He allowed one hit and seven strikeouts in 5+ innings of work en route to a shutout.  The Brewers would only muster up four hits in the game against the Dbacks pitching.  Chris Sale held his own, but still allowed three runs in six innings of work.

LP – Sale

SV – Martinez

Game 2

Dbacks 9

Brewers 3

Arizona would tee it up against former Dback Graham Ashcraft in this game, putting up a 5-spot in the bottom of the first.  Ezequiel Tovar would have a 4-Hit Game, which included a 2-run home run and double. The Brewers would get home runs from Heliot Ramos, Carlos Santana and Connor Norby, but it would not be enough to touch the Dbacks in this one.

LP – Ashcraft

HR – Tovar, Ramos, Santana, Norby

Game 3

Dbacks 7

Brewers 5

A back-and-forth game that the Dbacks held on to the lead all game, but the Brewers never made things feel safe.  Donovan Solano would have a 3-hit game with a 3-run home run for Arizona, while Heliot Ramos and a 3-hit game for Milwaukee with a solo home run.

WP – Abbott

LP – Bellozo

SV – Yates

HR – Solano, Ramos

Game 4

Dbacks 4

Brewers 2

Another close game.  It seems that every time the Brewers would score and climb back, the Dbacks would strike harder.  Jordan grew frustrated that he could not touch Ryan Feltner’s card as the pitcher would go 5 innings, allowing a run for the victory. Brenton Doyle would hit a 3-run triple for Arizona.  The Brewers had several opportunities to put runners on base, but each time the Dbacks found a way out of it in innings 7 through 9.  Dbacks with the win and the sweep of the series.

WP – Feltner

LP – Lively

SV – Yates

Dbacks climb back to 18-22 with a final homestand against the Phillies to get to the All-Star Break.  The Brewers are at the break and are 17-27.

Spencer Turnbull has been putting up some big outings in the Dbacks rotation.
