The Cincinnati Reds have been stomping the rest of the competition in the KPSL. While there are teams fighting for playoff spots, the Reds are in cruise control and outside of a total meltdown in their last series to close out the season, it seems likely that they will win the regular season crown. They travel to Arizona to take on a team that is sliding in the wrong direction. The marque matchup is Game 4, where starting pitcher Michael Wacha was going for a perfect season at 14-0. Could he do it? Let’s get to the recap.
Game 1 Reds 8 Dbacks 5
Cincy is mighty on offense, and they jumped all over Andre Pallante. Led by a Ketel Marte 3-run home run and a Joey Bart 2-run blast, it was 7-1 after two innings. Jesus Sanchez would hit two home runs for the Dbacks, but they were no match in this game. Arizona also committed four errors, which did not help their cause.
WP – Gallen LP – Pallante SV – Megill HR – Sanchez (2), Bart, Marte
Game 2
Reds 8
Dbacks 4
Reds continue to slug in game two, with Tyler Fitzgerald and Brett Wisley both hitting 3-run home runs to dominate this game. Jose Herrera would hit a 2-run blast for the Dbacks, but the Reds were too much to handle.
WP – Pepiot LP – Abbott HR – Fitzgerald, Wisley, Herrera
Game 3
Dbacks 3
Reds 1
Leave it to Ryan Feltner to silence the Reds hit machine. He would go six plus innings, allowing a run in the fourth. Santiago Espinal would hit a solo home run in the sixth to provide just enough runs for a home Dbacks victory.
WP – Feltner LP – Burnes HR – Espinal
Game 4
Reds 3
Dbacks 2
This was the game everyone wanted to see as the Reds Michael Wacha was chasing history. He was 13-0 and it was his scheduled last start until the playoffs begin. Wacha has had an impressive run, but a struggling team like the Dbacks were going to make him earn this on. On the hill for Arizona was Michael King and also in his last scheduled start for the season. Reds would strike in the fourth inning, as RBI singles by Christian Walker and Bryan Reynolds would put them up 2-0. Jose Herrera would hit a solo shot in the seventh inning to make it 2-1 Reds. King was in for the long haul and Walker make him pay in the eighth inning with a solo bomb to make it a 3-1 Reds lead. Wacha would leave after eight innings with a lead. His stat line was 8IP, 1ER, 4H, 4K. Tyler Megill would come in the ninth for the save. Ezequiel Toval would lead off with a double and Charlie Blackmon would ground out to score him. With two outs, it was Nolan Gorman’s chance to be a hero, and he would fly to left field. Reds win! Wacha goes 14-0! A perfect season! Great Job Michael Wacha…
WP – Wacha (14-0) LP – King SV – Megil lHR – Walker, Herrera
Thanks, Mike, for playing last night. And for Ed and Jeff for coming over what is the last strat night at my house for the season. Some big history as Ed throws his first no-no and Mike gets Wacha to go 14-0. Both very impressive feats.
