Cardinals Fight Off Dbacks To Take Series In Arizona

The St. Louis Cardinals got to the break as the top team in the KPSL. The Dbacks held on to .500 and hanging to the back of the playoff chase. The Cardinals took the series 3-1 the last time they met up in a close matchup. This time it’s a trip to the desert and hope that their winning ways against the snakes would continue.

Game 1

Arizona would jump out to a 2-0 lead on a Brendan Donovan home run in the first. They would tack on runs in the 4^th and 5^th innings, then blow up with 4 runs in the 6^th. William Contreas would hit a solo home run in the 8^th for the Cards to make it 8-3. Arizona would add one more run to make the final 9-3. Andrew Abbott continued to pitch well, going 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball, while striking out six.

This game seems like a reversal of the game previously. Will Benson would hit a 2-run home run to open the game for the Cards. Then it was a run in the 4^th, three in the 5^th and two in the 6^th to make it 8-0 St. Louis. Christian Yelich would smash a 2-run home run in the 6^th. Arizona would get two runs in the 8^th inning to make it 8-2, but the Cards would bring in another run in the 9^th. St. Louis wins game 2 by a score of 9-2. Paul Skenes would pitch six innings of shutout ball, striking out five.

This was a tight game. Cardinals bats would jump all over Jesus Luzardo early and after two innings, they made it 5-0. Issac Collins would score a run in the bottom of the 2^nd to make it 5-1, but it appeared to be all St. Louis in this one. Then the Dbacks would pounce on Kevin Gausman in the 5^th, led by a Francisco Lindor 2-run double and tied the game 5-5. Pedro Pages would come up in the 7^th and hit a solo home run to give the Cardinals a 6-5 lead. Keibert Ruiz would hit a 1-run double to tie the game in the bottom of the 7^th. The pens for each side would hold things down and we head to extra innings. We head to the top of the 12^th, Camilo Doval would be on the mound for the Dbacks and things did not go well. When it was over, four runs would score on four hits and an error by Lindor. Cardinals get the W by a score of 10-6.

Game 4

This game was all pitching. The only blemish was in the 5^th, when TJ Fridel would hit a Sac Fly to make it a 1-0 game for the Cards. That was the only run that was needed. Shota Imanaga would go seven innings, allowing three hits while striking out six. Zac Gallen would go six innings for the Dbacks, allowing the one run and striking out six as well. This was another game where the Dbacks could not muster up offense en route to a shutout.
