Giants @ Nationals
Four games, 19 runs total. Only one matchup outside a save situation as these two contenders fought to a draw.
Game 1- Nationals, 7-1
W-Tylor Megill L-River Ryan
HR-Michael Busch
Busch hit a three-run homer to cap a 4-run fourth off Ryan, and that was all the scoring until the Nats tacked on three in the 8th. Megill and four relievers finished it off for Washington. Giants struggled all night, including a Juan Soto triple play with 2nd and 3rd and no out in the top of the 8th. Ouch.
Game 2- Giants, 3-2
W-Jeff Hoffman L-Jake Junis SV-Tanner Scott
HR-Pete Crow-Armstrong, Corey Seager
Another tight one as starters Lodolo and Peterson each went 6 1/3. Peterson left up, 2-1, when Hoffman entered the game and gave up a tying home run to PCA in the bottom of the 7th. San Fran took the lead right back on an Edman triple (1-5 / out the rest) off Junis and a run-scoring single by Soto that held up for the W.
Game 3- Nationals, 1-0
W-Cristopher Sanchez L-Zack Wheeler SV-Jake Junis
Washington tallied only 5 singles in this one but managed to scrape across a run in the 5th to make Wheeler the hard-luck loser. PCA scored the only run of the game, scampering home on a LaMonte Wade single. The Giants left 10 on base, including three at third. Junis came back from the L in Game 2 to seal it with the save.
Game 4-Giants, 4-1
W-Corbin Burnes L-Dylan Cease SV-Tanner Scott
HR-Corey Seager, Juan Soto
The story here was redemption for Burnes, much-maligned for his awful start to the season. On this night he retired the first 18 Nationals in order (!) until Victor Robles walked to start the 7th; Jonah Bride eventually scored Robles on a single, but that made it only 4-1. San Fran's stars Seager and Soto provided enough muscle to carry the Giants to victory. Burnes went 8 strong to outduel Cease, who was hurt by the two long balls.
Giants end the series 17-15. Nationals are 19-13.
