Jordan S got to experience Great American Ballpark in August. And quickly realized how a lead can evaporate in the blink of an eye...er...homerun(s).
Game 1
Lively vs Wacha
Reds 9, Brewers 2
The Brew Crew actually took a 2-0 lead off 3 doubles in the 2nd, but the Reds batted 8 in the bottom of the 2nd, putting up a 4 spot, that started off with back to back jacks from Donovan and Doyle. Lively gets the hook after 3.33 after another taxing inning - the 4th - where the Reds bat 7 and score 3 where they hit no extra base hits. Wacha goes 6 innings for his 9th win and the Reds bullpen cleans up the rest.
Game 2
Brewers 6, Reds 1
Taillon vs Gallen
Jameson Taillon has some weird thing about overachieving against my Reds. It didn't stop last night, either. Jamo goes 5.2 PERFECT innings until Patrick Bailey singles to break up the no-no. The Brewers took the early lead again, this time when Michael Conforto crushed a 3-run homer in the 4th and it's all the Brewers really needed. The game was 6-0 before the Reds got a pathetic Ramon Laureano solo homer after all the main players were benched. Jamo goes 8IP 3H 0BB 8K and 1ER. He could have done a CG but the manager pulled him before he could get the chance (BOOOOOOO).
Game 3
Reds 8, Brewers 1
Rodon vs Greene
The game was close early, with the Reds going up 1-0 after 2 via a Tyler Fitzgerald solo homer. The Brewers had men on 1st and 2nd in the 3rd, but couldn't put up a crooked number. The Reds pounce on the opportunity and tack on another 3 runs in the next 2 innings, a solo homer from Brenton Doyle and a 2-run shot from Casey Schmitt. The Reds add insurance in the 6th with 3 solo homers from Ramon Laureano, Casey Schmitt and Billy Cook. Hunter Greene goes 6IP 2H 1BB and 8K and 0ER. That's my ace.
Game 4
Reds 11, Brewers 2
Graham Ashcraft vs Ryan Pepiot
This one was over quick. The Reds put up 5 after the Brewers go scoreless in the 1st, which included a 3-run shot from "WE KNOW, IT'S...GENO!" to cap the inning off. The Brewers couldn't muster anything off Ryan Pepiot, who goes 6IP 2H 2BB and 4K (0ER). Brewers get a huge Connor Norby solo homer in the 9th to cut the lead to 11-1 and break up the shutout.
Story of GABP...we outhomered the Brew Crew 12-3.
